Thailand Wellness Retreat Itinerary
-
Arrive into Chiang Mai and complete immigration formalities before collecting your luggage and exiting the terminal. Your local host will be waiting at Exit Door 9 holding a signboard with your name. A private transfer then takes you to your retreat, a journey of around 30 minutes through residential neighbourhoods and green pockets that signal a shift away from urban pace.
Chiang Mai offers a gentler expression of Thailand’s cultural life. Shaped by centuries of northern Thai traditions, the city is known for its temples, craftsmanship and strong connection to landscape and spirituality. Forested foothills frame the city, and daily life moves at a more measured pace, creating a natural context for a wellness focused stay.On arrival at Aleenta Retreat Chiang Mai, the shift from travel to retreat is clear. Opened in 2023 as the third property under the Aleenta brand, this intimate luxury hotel has just 44 rooms and suites, along with one and two-bedroom pool residences and a four-bedroom teak villa reclaimed from traditional structures. Owned and operated by Akaryn Hotel Group, the property intentionally combines modern design with thoughtful nods to northern Thai heritage, all centred around gardens, a pool and the Ayurah Spa & Wellness Centre. Check in is unhurried, giving you time to absorb the scale, detail and calm of your surroundings as the pace of the day gently settles.
After check in, the afternoon is intentionally unstructured. Guests are introduced to the spa and wellness facilities, with one spa treatment per person included on arrival, selected from the extensive menu. The remainder of the day is at leisure, offering time to rest by the pool, explore the property or retreat to your room, easing comfortably into the days ahead.

The day begins quietly with breakfast at the hotel, enjoyed within the calm setting of the retreat. Mornings in Chiang Mai are typically cooler and softer, making this an ideal time to explore the forested slopes that rise above the city. After breakfast, there is time to prepare before departing later in the morning.
Travel by private vehicle into the foothills of Doi Suthep to visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, one of northern Thailand’s most important pilgrimage sites. Set high above the city, the temple has drawn worshippers for centuries and remains central to Chiang Mai’s spiritual identity. Explore the temple precincts with your guide, observing pilgrims making offerings, listening to monks’ chants and learning how Buddhist belief continues to shape daily life in the region. Guests may ascend via the Naga Staircase, a ceremonial climb of 306 steps lined with serpent balustrades, or take the cable car to the upper terraces, both offering wide views across the city.
Afterwards, continue by vehicle to Wat Pha Lat, a separate forest temple located along the lower slopes of the mountain. More understated in scale and atmosphere, Wat Pha Lat is set among trees and shaded pathways, with stone walkways, small shrines and water features woven into the hillside. The quieter setting offers a contrasting expression of spiritual life, favouring reflection and simplicity over ceremony.
Please note that visitors are required to dress appropriately when visiting temples. Shorts are not permitted, shoulders must be covered, and shoes must be removed before entering temple buildings.
Return to the hotel by early afternoon, with the remainder of the day left unstructured. Guests may choose to rest, spend time by the pool, enjoy the spa facilities or retreat to their room, allowing time to absorb the morning’s experiences and maintain the retreat’s slower rhythm.

The morning begins at a relaxed pace with breakfast at the hotel, enjoyed within the calm surrounds of the retreat. With the day focused on restoration rather than movement, there is time to ease into the morning and prepare for the wellness sessions ahead.
From 8:30am to 9:15am, guests take part in a guided meditation and sound healing session held at Aleenta Retreat Chiang Mai. This session is designed to quiet the mind and settle the nervous system, using sound and breath to encourage focus, release mental tension and create a grounded start to the day. The gentle pace allows space to remain present rather than rushed.
Later in the morning, guests enjoy the Lanna Secrets Rejuvenation, a private spa experience rooted in traditional northern Thai healing practices. This two hour treatment begins with acupressure through a Traditional Thai Massage, stimulating key points to release tension and prepare the body. Thai herbal hot compresses are then applied to soothe muscles and encourage circulation, before concluding with an aromatherapy hot oil massage using herbal essential oils to support deep relaxation and recovery.
After the treatment, return to the hotel and enjoy the remainder of the afternoon at leisure. Guests may choose to rest at the retreat, swim, revisit the spa facilities or retreat to their room. Those wishing to head into the city independently may explore Chiang Mai’s Old City temples, browse local markets, visit galleries and cafés, or wander along the Ping River, with transport easily arranged.
In the evening, gather for a farewell dinner at the hotel. This final shared meal is relaxed and unstructured, providing a chance to reflect on the retreat experience and enjoy a calm close to the day before the journey continues.

Absolutely. Solo travellers are very welcome on this tour. A single supplement of $1,300 AUD applies if you prefer your own room.
-
Tipping in Thailand is not expected in the way it is in some Western countries, but it is always appreciated for good service.
In hotels, restaurants and spas, service charges are often already included, particularly at higher-end properties. For local guides and drivers, tipping is discretionary and based on the level of service provided rather than an obligation. A small amount offered at the end of an experience is considered a kind gesture rather than a requirement.
For this retreat, tips for guides and drivers are already included where specified, so there is no need to tip unless you feel you have received exceptional service and wish to do so personally.
