Upon arrival, a private transfer will take us to our first stop, the Onsen Jigoku Museum. This fascinating exhibit provides insight into Beppu’s unique geothermal activity, showcasing the history, science, and cultural significance of the region’s famous hot springs.
Continuing our exploration, we visit Umijigoku, or "Sea Hell," one of Beppu’s most striking hot springs. The vivid cobalt-blue waters, constantly bubbling and steaming, create an almost surreal landscape. Walking through the surrounding gardens, you'll witness the powerful forces of nature that have shaped Beppu into Japan’s premier onsen destination.
In the late afternoon, we check into our traditional Japanese ryokan, where you can unwind in the soothing onsen baths. The evening culminates with a beautifully presented kaiseki dinner, featuring seasonal ingredients and local delicacies, offering an authentic taste of Kyushu’s rich culinary heritage. Unfortunately this tour is not suitable for travellers requiring wheelchairs, mobility scooters, or specialized accessibility facilities. Walking aids may be permitted, but participants must be able to keep up with the tour’s pace.
Many sites in Japan involve staircases and extensive walking. If you have any physical concerns, please disclose them at the time of booking so we can advise whether this trip is suitable for you.
Travellers must ensure they meet all health, vaccination, COVID-19, and immigration requirements for both their departure and destination countries, as well as any regulations imposed by airlines, tour operators, cruise lines, and accommodations. Costs associated with vaccinations, testing, and quarantine measures are the responsibility of the traveller. Comprehensive travel insurance that includes COVID-19 coverage is strongly recommended. -
Each traveller is permitted one piece of luggage weighing no more than 20kg, regardless of any other baggage allowances. Excess baggage is not permitted, and we strongly recommend packing light. A small day bag or backpack is allowed on the coach for personal items. Porterage services are not included, so you will need to carry your own luggage. Please be mindful that all baggage and personal belongings are your responsibility, and we cannot be held liable for lost or damaged items. Due to bullet train luggage restrictions, large suitcases cannot be taken onboard. While time spent at hotels will be minimal, each property has been carefully chosen to meet the group’s needs. Though not always in central locations, accommodations are typically close to public transportation for convenience. Upon arrival in many cities, your guide will provide an orientation to help you navigate the area. Hotels are generally 3-star or higher, based on local ratings.
Double-bed rooms are limited and cannot be guaranteed. If unavailable, twin beds will be provided. The hotels listed serve as an example of the expected standard, but actual accommodations may vary and will be confirmed in your final tour documents.
Standard check-in is after 3:00pm, while check-out is before 10:00am, though times may vary by property. As smoking remains common in Japan, non-smoking or deodorized rooms will be requested whenever possible. If this presents any concerns, please speak with hotel staff upon check-in.
