Ride through one of Japan’s most scenic coastal regions on this 8-day journey across the islands of the Seto Inland Sea. Beginning in Osaka and travelling to Onomichi, the route follows quiet cycling lanes, ferry crossings and island backroads linking Honshu and Shikoku through one of the country’s most distinctive maritime regions.

Each day combines steady riding with time to explore fishing villages, small towns, galleries and local industries that continue to shape life across Setouchi. From the citrus farms of Osakikamijima to the landmark bridges of the Shimanami Kaido, the approximately 300km route reveals a changing mix of coastal scenery, open water and rural island landscapes.

Beyond the cycling, the journey also offers insight into the slower pace of life found across many of the inland sea islands. Spend evenings soaking in seaside onsens, wandering local neighbourhoods and enjoying meals centred around fresh seafood, seasonal produce and regional cooking traditions.

Accommodation throughout the tour includes traditional ryokans, restored wooden houses and comfortable locally run properties chosen for their setting and character. With experienced hosts leading the rides and a support vehicle throughout the journey, our special interest Japan cycling tour is designed for Australian travellers seeking active days, cultural depth and access to parts of Japan that remain largely overlooked by broader itineraries.

Tour prices are quoted per person, based on twin share accommodation. If travelling with a companion, please select two travellers and your preferred room type. Solo travellers should select one traveller and choose the single room option. Deposits and payment plans are available on selected departures. Please refer to our Terms & Conditions before completing your booking.
